It was the day after Labor Day when we had the chance to sit down with writer, director and actors Lawrence Michael Levine and Sophia Takal to discuss their recent and upcoming films. Over some outstanding coffee at Cafe Pedlar in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, we learned a lot about how Lawrence and Sophia approach  their work, what it’s like to wear multiple hats as independent producers, their influences, and much more. With films such as GREEN (premiering theatrically in NYC and Chicago) and Gabi on the Roof in July  (available on Hulu, iTunes and Amazon to name few), this dynamic filmmaking duo is definitely making a name for themselves in the city that never sleeps.

Cannes 65th annual film festival is well on its way, and with some of last year’s entries turning into box office gold, this year’s talented filmmakers definitely have a standard to keep. Ever since its creation, the Festival de Cannes has remained faithful to its founding purpose: to draw attention to and raise the profile of films with the aim of contributing towards the development of cinema, boosting the film industry worldwide and celebrating cinema at an international level. With Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” opening the festival last year, no one would have guessed it would become one of Allen’s highest grossing films ever, getting him his first Oscar in 25 years. With 2012 judges like Jean-Paul Gaultier, Ewan McGregor and few other well known faces, this years Cannes Film Festival seems like one unforgettable, star-studded fest.
