It was a great turnout last night at the Florida Film Festival annual Kickoff party. Not only was the Enzian Theater’s Eden Bar packed with new drinks and appetizers, but great locals from the industry too! Whether film enthusiasts, filmmakers or press, all were welcomed with open arms. Special shout-out to Deeb Studios who showed off their new promo for FFF ‘13.

Everyone’s heard of Sundance, Tribeca and Cannes. What everyone doesn’t know is that there are great festivals out there just as inspiring, that are sometimes overlooked or underrated. We’re not saying you shouldn’t try and submit your work to some of the more “popular” film fests, but the other fests need love too! (Plus, it’s a great way to gain feedback while learning and meeting new people, instead of getting lost in the shuffle at the bigger events.) Listed are our picks of underrated festivals across the globe that should be given a reel chance. You never know, one of them might just spark your filmmaking fancy…

Cannes 65th annual film festival is well on its way, and with some of last year’s entries turning into box office gold, this year’s talented filmmakers definitely have a standard to keep. Ever since its creation, the Festival de Cannes has remained faithful to its founding purpose: to draw attention to and raise the profile of films with the aim of contributing towards the development of cinema, boosting the film industry worldwide and celebrating cinema at an international level. With Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” opening the festival last year, no one would have guessed it would become one of Allen’s highest grossing films ever, getting him his first Oscar in 25 years. With 2012 judges like Jean-Paul Gaultier, Ewan McGregor and few other well known faces, this years Cannes Film Festival seems like one unforgettable, star-studded fest.

The Florida Film Fest been a consistent festival partner of ProductionHUB’s year after year, and to have a great organization like the Enzian in our backyard makes it all the better.

Canon unveils new camera for pro filmmakers
Pro filmmakers have been waiting in eager anticipation for the major announcement from Canon. True to their word, the Canon EOS System line was revealed before an audience of some of the world’s most famous filmmakers in Hollywood last Friday night. Filmmakers including Jon Favreau, Ron Howard and Martin Scorcese were in attendance.
Move over hobbyists and first-timers - while similar in shape to a traditional still camera, this bad boy is for serious moviemakers. Whether it’s for television, corporate, government or education markets, it’s perfect for skilled cinematographers operating in carefully controlled environments.
