With the Cannes Film Festival kicking off today, France is definitely ready to be the center of attention. As the red carpet rolls out for some of the world’s most awe-inspiring films, actors and cinematographers alike, this years Cannes Film Festival might be one of the most important yet!

Luhrmann’s 3D adaption of The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is this year’s film festival opener. Cannes usually takes precedence over release schedules, especially since the movie has already released in North America, but ‘Gatsby’ sails into France regardless, to make its grand debut in Cannes.

If you happened to miss going on a trip to France for the Cannes Film Festival last month, you have another shot to head on over. The Cannes Lions is coming up soon from June 17-23. Each year more than 9000 members of the creative communications industries come together to get inspired and educated at Cannes Lions. Guest speakers such as Bill Clinton will be in attendance, along with the Cannes 2012 Media Person of the Year, Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey- and that’s only the beginning. With all the events, panels and creative minds at this year’s festival- seems like we found a perfect excuse to jet set to France.

Cannes 65th annual film festival is well on its way, and with some of last year’s entries turning into box office gold, this year’s talented filmmakers definitely have a standard to keep. Ever since its creation, the Festival de Cannes has remained faithful to its founding purpose: to draw attention to and raise the profile of films with the aim of contributing towards the development of cinema, boosting the film industry worldwide and celebrating cinema at an international level. With Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” opening the festival last year, no one would have guessed it would become one of Allen’s highest grossing films ever, getting him his first Oscar in 25 years. With 2012 judges like Jean-Paul Gaultier, Ewan McGregor and few other well known faces, this years Cannes Film Festival seems like one unforgettable, star-studded fest.
